Neurosurgical Center
The Neurosurgical Center and its director, Professor M. Samii are internationally renowned for top class expertise in all areas of neurosurgical care.
Brain Tumor Surgery
The INI provides outstanding diagnostic and therapeutic facilities for brain tumors and skull base tumors. For treatment sophisticated, non-invasive mapping techniques, computer-assisted image guidance and intraoperative electrophysiological monitoring are available at the INI.
Skull base tumors are frequently approached in conjunction with other specialties, notably otolaryngology.
Cerebrovascular Surgery
There is a unique group of professionals dedicated to the treatment of cerebrovascular disease. Prof. Samii leads the group. The group consists of neurosurgeons and international renowned interventional neuroradiologists, and Gamma knife radiation specialists. The multidisciplinary team deals with brain aneurysms, AVMs, carotid disease and stroke. We provide a comprehensive multimodality approach to the most difficult and challenging cases. All treatment decisions are made with extensive patient and family involvement.
Epilepsy
The INI provides the full range of epilepsy surgeries, including multistage surgery, corpus callosotomy, hemispherectomy, stereotactic depth electrodes, awake craniotomies with intra-operative functional mapping are routinely performed.
Spinal Neurosurgery
Approximately one-third of all neurosurgical operations at the INI involve surgery of the spine. Patients are referred from all over the world. The mix of cases is quite heterogeneous; about 50% have degenerative spinal disease, 30% have spinal tumors, and the remainder have traumatic conditions or congenital conditions or infections.
Gamma Knife Radiosurgery
The INI Gamma Knife now treats 50-100 cases a year, the majority of which are metastatic tumors. The Gamma Knife has also been used judiciously in cases of trigeminal neuralgia, acoustic neuromas, arteriovenous malformations, and meningiomas.
Center for Treatment of Movement Disorders
Parkinson's Disease and other movement disorders worldwide afflict millions of patients, often with debilitating, disabling symptoms.
Supplementing the range of traditional drug therapies, the Center offers several surgical interventions that reduce tremor and bradykinesia (slowness of movement). The core team that works collaboratively to provide these options comprises neurologists, neurosurgeons and neurophysiologists.
Facial Pain
Facial pain is one of the most distressing neurological symptoms.
The causes are numerous and extremely varied. The evaluation of a patient with facial pain requires a careful, thorough history and examination by a physician with experience in this area. The INI provides different surgical procedure to cure the patient, e.g. through microvascular nerve decompression.

Prof. Dr. med. Amir Samii
Vice-Director of the Neurosurgical Center
INI provides six ultramodern operation rooms, including intraoperative MRTand angiography.
Neuronavigational technique at the most developed state is provided for surgery of brain and spine.
