Prof. Dr. med. Gerd Peter Meyer

Prof. Dr. med. Gerd Peter Meyer is a specialist in Internal Medicine and Cardiology with extensive clinical, scientific, and leadership experience at Hannover Medical School (MHH), Asklepios Clinic Hamburg Altona, and the Kardiologikum Hannover. After many years of close collaboration with the International Neuroscience Institute (INI), Prof. Meyer was appointed Director of Cardiology at the INI Hannover in April 2026, where he is responsible for establishing and expanding the cardiac care for in- and outpatients.

His clinical expertise includes cardiac imaging, preventive cardiology, interventional cardiology, the treatment of structural heart disease, and internal intensive care medicine.

 

Education & Academic Qualifications

Prof. Meyer studied medicine at Hannover Medical School (MHH), completing study periods in Austria, England, and the United States before passing the German medical state examination in 1992.

Following his doctoral degree on quantitative coronary angiography, he completed his habilitation in 2006 with the thesis on Intracoronary Bone Marrow Cell Therapy in Patients After Acute Myocardial Infarction. This work contributed significantly to early clinical research in regenerative therapies following myocardial infarction.

In 2008, he was appointed Associate Professor of Internal Medicine at Hannover Medical School.
